The air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, and cabin air filter keep your car in top shape. Learn more about what they do and why you shouldn't neglect them in this article.

Filters Keep Your Engine Clean

If you want your car to be with you for a long time, you need to care for the many components that make it up. The road is filled with pollutants that might find their way into the engine and affect your vehicle’s overall performance. Luckily, you have various filters doing an excellent job in preventing these impurities from hurting your engine. There are four filters whose main task is to keep everything clean and running: the oil filter, the air filter, the fuel filter, and the cabin air filter. It’s pretty self-explanatory what filter do, but still, it never hurts to get a better grasp of their importance. Join Amsoil4liny in learning more about these four filters and what they do to keep your car in order.

Air Filter

As you know the combustion process requires air to happen correctly. The engine sucks this air from the outside. Unfortunately, this air comes packed with dust and other impurities that can affect the combustion process, as well as your fuel-efficiency. Without proper combustion, your engine’s power and your fuel mileage both suffer. The air filter protects your engine from abrasive particles such as dust and dirt. It needs to work extra hard if you live in really dusty areas. You can clean the filter from time to time, but only as a temporary fix. Ideally, you should replace it once a year if you care about maintaining your engine’s performance and getting the most out of your mileage. Of course, you will need to replace your air filter more often if you live in a dusty area.

Cabin Air Filter

The cabin air filter is mostly for your personal benefit. It helps keep your cabin are clean and breathable. As you drive your car, your cabin air filter catches dust particles and pollen floating in the air and keep them from entering the cabin. These airborne particles can irritate and cause allergy flare-ups. So if you care about having healthy inside air, change your cabin air filter once a year. Unless, you live in a dusty or polluted area, which means you’ll have to replace it more often.

Oil Filter

The oil filter is pretty much the filter that should concern you the most. It’s also the one you need to change more often, each time you get a synthetic oil change to be more precise. Your engine is made up of many metal pieces constantly grinding against each other and causing friction. Synthetic oil is meant to reduce friction levels and keep the engine lubricated and clean. However, even the best oil can’t wholly prevent friction from happening. This friction often results in released metal shavings. The oil filter traps these shavings and other pollutants and prevents them from returning to the oil and potentially harming your engine. But if the oil filter overfills, it won’t be able to function properly, and you’ll see your engine’s performance affected. Each time your oil change interval comes up, don’t neglect replacing this critical element. You can get your new oil filter and your synthetic oil from AMSOIL’s online store. If you prefer to make a more personalized purchase and talk to an expert, call Matt Koing from Amsoil4liny at (888) 826-7645. He will give your oil recommendations, such as choosing XL 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil if you care about extending your oil interval or a  Signature Series 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil if you want something else.

Fuel filter

Since petroleum is an organic source, it often comes with some impurities in it. What the oil filter does is remove those pollutants and prevent them from reaching the engine. Plus, that tanks in which gasoline is stored collect even more contaminants, which is why it’s imperative to change the oil filter occasionally. Alternatively, you can be smarter when it comes to pumping gas to avoid the time in which the fuel is dirtier. Fuel filters function this way for gasoline vehicles at least. For diesel cars, fuel filters work differently. Diesel fuel filters are shaped like a bowl to catch all the water that comes with the fuel. Later on, the filter’s drain plug can be removed to release the water. This fuel filter prevents corrosion from forming inside the engine and potentially causing bigger damage.
