Your car uses a variety of fluids to perform, and all are equally important and necessary. To keep your vehicle always at its best, you need to be sure that it has the appropriate amount of these fluids. Learn about them and what they do in this post. There are many different types of fluids present in your car. Fluids that keep your vehicle safe and in motion. Perhaps when you think of car fluids that make your vehicle go, the first one you think about is fuel. Absolutely! Without fuel your car would remain stuck in the same place. However, neglecting the other fluids can cause some damage that a trip to the gas station won't be able to fix. Join Amsoil4liny in this article about the fluids that make your car move.

6 Very Important Fluids Your Car Needs

The Oil

Oil is the most critical fluid (after fuel, of course) if you want to keep your car functioning. The oil lubricates your engine so it can go on performing smoothly. It reduces friction caused by the constant rubbing of metal pieces in the engine and prevents your engine from overheating. Not only that, oil prevents rusting because it blocks oxygen from reaching the metal components. As if that wasn’t enough, the oil’s other job is to trap dirt and other pollutants that travel around your engine. Now, that’s just what conventional oil does. If you use synthetic oil, the results are going to be so much better. What is synthetic oil going to do for your engine? It will keep it exceptionally lubricated for a longer period, reducing your oil change intervals. It will also maintain the temperature down, and keep your engine clean, even removing any sludge that was already residing there. Lubrication is essential to your vehicle, so the best thing you can do for your engine is get an AMSOIL Synthetic Oil change. AMSOIL has the synthetic oil your engine needs to keep going strong, just give their Signature Series 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil a try and you’ll notice the difference. Brake Fluid

Most modern brakes are hydraulic, which means that when the brake fluid gets pressurized, it provides the force that makes your car come to a halt. When you push the brake pedal, a plunger in the master brake cylinder pushes the fluid through tubes and hoses that causes the brake pads to clamp on the rotors and stop the car. It sounds like a slow process, but it happens instantly. If it doesn’t, the first thing you should check is the brake fluid. It’s supposed to be translucent, but if it looks dark or cloudy or if you can’t see through the liquid, you need to replace it.

Transmission Fluid

You will find two dipsticks under your hood, one’s for the oil and the other is to check the transmission fluid. This fluid does a similar job as the oil, which is to lubricate and cool. However, in this case, it does the job inside the transmission. Just like the brake fluid, the transmission fluid gets pressurized allowing the transmission to shift gears seamlessly. A fully functioning transmission fluid should be amber or red, maybe slightly pinkish. If it looks dark or if it smells burnt, you need to replace it.

Coolant

The combination of friction and combustion happening in the engine is sure to make the temperature rise. Coolant, or antifreeze, is necessary to lower the heat. The coolant absorbs the engine’s heat and dissipates it through the radiator. The coolant should be mixed with water (50/50) to keep the motor cool and out of danger from overheating. Fortunately, you only need to check the antifreeze level around each 50,000 miles or so, and you should only do it when the engine is cool.

Power Steering Fluid

Like most other car fluids, the power steering fluid is meant to provide lubrication, in this case to the power steering, making it easier for you to steer your car and control your wheels. Again, like other fluids in your vehicle, this liquid uses pressure to flow.

Windshield Washer Fluid

Alright, so this fluid isn’t necessary for your car to keep moving, but it does make it easy for you to see and remain safe while you’re driving. Windshield washer fluid is the easiest fluid to replace and you can buy it almost anywhere or even make your own.
